In 2001 Nancy Bourgeois, then BEMS Director, received a call from a Vocational /Technical School now Community College, searching for an EMS Educational Director.
Nancy always kept a mental roster of EMT and Paramedics within in the state that she thought would excel in various leadership positions.
Within 5 minutes she picked up the phone called this individual out of the blue and told them about the proposal.
Without hesitation Sandra Merritt LeBlanc, affectionately known as “Sandy” accepted the challenge and for the past 17 years has been serving as the Professor of EMS at Nunez Community College and consistently demonstrates commitment to providing high-quality, professional education. She serves as an outstanding role model for EMS practitioners in the classroom and in the community, effectively mentors EMS students at all stages of their professional development, introduces and incorporates innovative approaches and tools in the classroom, and contributes and participates in the development of EMS education content.
