A Message from the President of LANREMTShane Bellard Headshot

Hello LANREMT members!

As you are already aware, in 2004, the Louisiana Legislature created the Louisiana Emergency Response Network (LERN) to create a statewide system of trauma and time-sensitive illness care coordinated among pre-hospital, acute post-acute, rehabilitation, and injury prevention, to provide access to local health systems for time-sensitive patient treatment. Since LERN’s inception in 2004, LANREMT has been honored to provide regional representation for all EMS practitioners by having a seat on LERN’s regional board in all 9 regions of the state.

Part of the LERN Board of Directors 2022 strategic plan included adding EMS representation to the LERN Board. To this end, Senate Bill 411 was filed during the 2022 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Senate Bill 411 (Act 123) passed and adds, “One member who is an EMS practitioner from a list of nominees submitted by the Louisiana Association of Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technicians (LANREMT).”

In the summer of 2022, we asked members who were interested in representing LANREMT and all EMS practitioners on the LERN Board of Directors to submit a statement of interest along with a current resume. Numerous members expressed interest in this opportunity, all of whom would provide professional representation at the highest level possible. Nominations were then delivered to the Louisiana Office of Boards and Commissions for consideration.

On January 5, 2023, LANREMT received notification that a decision regarding the seat had been made by the Honorable John Bel Edwards, Governor of Louisiana. On behalf of the LANREMT Executive Board of Directors, we would like to congratulate Mr. David Marcus on his appointment to the LERN Board of Directors. We are confident that Mr. Marcus will do a great job at representing LANREMT and look forward to all his accomplishments while serving on this board. We would also like to thank all our members who expressed interest in this opportunity. Your dedication and commitment to the betterment of EMS and to the patients we serve are commendable and much appreciated.

Once again, thanks to everyone who expressed interest in serving on this board, and congratulations to David Marcus on his recent appointment.

Louisiana Association of Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technicians

LANREMT's mission is the enhancement of the EMS profession through advocacy, education and awareness. Founded in 1976, LANREMT works with many EMS associations in Louisiana to strengthen the EMS System and to ensure quality patient care. LANREMT is the state affiliate of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, NREMT, and is a member of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, NAEMT.

LANREMT is the only statewide voice for more than 20,000 EMS personnel in Louisiana. Only about 20% of the 20,000 plus emergency medical personnel in Louisiana work full-time as EMS providers. The remaining 80% are members of volunteer rescue squads in their community or workplace. It is through the support of corporations and other caring individuals that LANREMT is able to continue working to improve EMS in Louisiana.

LANREMT members sit on every major E.M.S. board and task force, working to improve EMS in Louisiana. Some of the many committees are: The Education Sub-Committee, The Clinical Care Sub-Committee, The Communications Sub-Committee, The Disaster Sub-Committee, The EMS Terrorism Preparedness Sub-Committee, LERN and The EMS Task Force.

LANREMT sponsors a statewide educational conference. Each year we bring in speakers from around the country. Select "Annual Conference" for more information. LANREMT members receive a discount on their conference registration fee. Many of our chapters sponsor local workshops and refresher courses.

LANREMT maintains a Facebook page and it is there you will find the most timely and up-to-date information on our activities.

Timothy Cox1st Responder of the Year

This responder volunteers his time with the fire department running EMS and fire calls and works full time with EMS. They help me provider patient care while in back of the ambulance.

This responder makes sure the ambulance is always clean and restocked. He keeps me on my toes making sure I put the equipment back or write the mileage down and even tells me to pick up my trash.

He needs to further his education, has great skills and very knowledgeable. While working for the fire department this responder makes sure all their members are current on all their EMR license and CPR. He also answers fire and medical calls while not on duty. This person is what a true EMR suppose to be.

It is my honor to present Timothy “TJ” Cox, 1st Responder of the Year.
